HISTORY OF HOLY MANTLE
Holy Mantle which was gifted to Veysel Karani by Hazrat Muhammad (saw) is protected in Hırka-ı Şerif Mosque in Fatih which reached to today. Since Hırka-ı Şerif Mosque which was established by the Ottoman Padishah Sultan Abdülmecid to ensure it is protected and visited, this mosque holds great importance in the religious folklore of Istanbul. Hazrat Ömer and Hazrat Ali were assigned with passing down the Holy Mantle which Hazrat Muhammad wore while ascending to miraj by his will.

Since Veysel Karani did not get married nor has children, Holy Mantle was passed down to his brother Şihabeddin El-Üveysi. 1500 year-old relic was given to the Gülay Köprülü, the daughter of Haşim Köprülü following the demise of Veysel Karani’s 57th generation grandchild Haşim Körpülü’s wife Nuriye Köprülü in 2005. It has been kept at the very same point without changing position since 1851 by Sultan Abdülmecid due to the insufficiency of the places of exhibition for visit. The relic was not opened to visit in 2009 with the aim of enhancing its durability against time. A world-class activity on it was completed by Marina Zingarelli, Italian textile conservator, and it was completely opened to visit in 2010. Holy Mantle is today protected by Köprülü family, 59th generation grandchildren of Veysel Karani today.
