Malaysian Consul-General Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar Visits Mayor Turan; Fatih Central Library Inspected On-Site

Malaysian Consul-General in Istanbul Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar paid a visit to Mr. M. Ergün Turan, the Mayor of Fatih Municipality. Following the meeting, they toured the Fatih Central Library, which is actively used by young people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

During the visit, the two discussed initiatives and educational opportunities aimed at young people. Following the meeting, Mr. Turan, the Mayor and Mr. Abu Bakar, the Consul-General toured the Fatih Central Library together, which is heavily utilised by young people at all hours of the day.

During the library tour, individual study areas, group study sections and spaces designed to meet students’ needs were examined on site. It was noted that the library, which is open around the clock and actively used by students, serves as a key study centre, particularly during exam periods. During the visit, brief conversations were held with young people present in the library, and observations regarding the use of the facility were shared.

Highlighting that the Fatih Central Library is a key centre contributing to the educational lives of youngsters, Mr. Turan stated that the library’s 24/7 service provides a significant convenience for students. He emphasised that the library serves not merely as a space for studying, but as a meeting point where young people gather, conduct research and spend their time productively.

During the visit, information was also shared regarding projects and education-focused initiatives aimed at young people. It was stated that libraries are important public spaces that contribute to the academic development of young people, whilst it was also noted that such venues support their social and cultural development.

At the end of the visit, Mayor Turan expressed his gratitude to Consul General Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar for his kind visit. Mr. Abu Bakar, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the hospitality shown and thanked Mr. Turan. The visit concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill.
