Istanbul is hosting CRAFTİSTANBUL 6th International Handicrafts and Design Fair, one of the most prestigious events in the world of handicrafts and design. The event, held at the Eurasia Exhibition and Arts Centre, brings together artists, designers and artisans from all over the world under one roof.
Among those attending the fair was Mr. M. Ergün Turan, the Mayor of Fatih Municipality. Touring the stands with Istanbul MP Halis Dalkılıç, Mayor Turan took a close interest in the work of the trainees, particularly examining the works produced by the KARINCA Handicrafts Training Unit of the Fatih Municipality. Mr. Turan stated that this unit, which supports women's labour, makes an important contribution to the field of handicrafts.
In his assessment, Mr. Turan emphasised that CRAFTİSTANBUL is more than just a fair; it is a meeting point for different cultures:
"Here, it is possible to share the same atmosphere with artists from different regions. Behind each handcrafted work lies tremendous effort, patience, and cultural heritage. The KARINCA Handicraft Training Unit encourages women to engage in production and preserves traditional handicrafts with this understanding. I invite all our fellow citizens to visit our stand at the fair."
The stands at the fair showcase a wide range of works, from traditional handicrafts to contemporary designs. Hand-woven textiles, ceramic objects, wood and glass crafts, jewellery and modern design products attract visitors' attention, while workshops and talks throughout the fair share the production processes with participants.
CRAFTİSTANBUL builds a bridge between generations by bringing together the work of both master craftsmen and young designers. This ensures that traditional crafts are passed on to future generations and that innovative ideas reach a wider audience.
The KARINCA Handicraft Training Unit of the Fatih Municipality also attracts attention with its works exhibited at the fair. The objects produced by women through handicrafts within the scope of the training unit receive intense interest from visitors with their original designs. These works both provide economic contribution to producers and pioneer the preservation of local culture and handicrafts.
CRAFTİSTANBUL stands out as an international meeting point that strengthens Istanbul's cultural identity, while the participation of the Fatih Municipality serves as a powerful example of local authorities' efforts to support culture and design.
